Liverpool players have begun their pre-season training, after the devastating car crash that killed star forward Diogo Jota, 28, and his 25-year-old brother, Andre Silva.
Jota was traveling by car and ferry to Liverpool for pre-season due to medical advice against flying after minor surgery.
The tragedy led to the postponement of last Friday’s scheduled training return.
A large contingent of Liverpool staff and players, including manager Arne Slot, traveled to Portugal for a public wake and the funeral in Gondomar.
Captain Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson carried floral tributes for the brothers.
Tributes continue to pour in, with Liverpool Women players Grace Fisk and Gemma Bonner laying a floral tribute at Anfield.
Further respects have been paid at the club’s training ground, Jota’s former club Wolves’ Molineux stadium, and the football academy in Gondomar named after him.
Liverpool’s first pre-season match is set for Sunday, July 13th, against Preston North End at Deepdale.
