Maroons wrapped up their FUFA Super 8 run in sixth place after a 4-1 penalty shootout loss to Express FC on Tuesday evening at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo. The game had ended 1-1 in regular time.
New signing Ronald Sempala put the Warders ahead in the 25th minute, pouncing after coming on for the injured Raymond Walugembe.
But Express drew level late on when Mikidadi Senyonga bent in a superb free kick with ten minutes to play, forcing the contest to penalties.
Maroons faltered from the spot, converting only once as Express stayed perfect to claim fifth place. The result capped a mixed campaign for Maroons, who managed one win, one draw and two defeats across their four matches.
They opened with a goalless draw against BUL FC, lost 3-1 in the return leg, fell 2-0 to KCCA, and closed with Tuesday’s stalemate against Express.
Despite the modest finish, the team showed flashes of quality and will now turn to the Startimes Uganda Premier League, which kicks off in ten days.
Their opener is set to be against NEC FC, with the exact date to be confirmed. Coach’s focus will be on sharpening consistency and converting bright spells into results as league action begins.
