Former NEC head coach Hussein Mbalangu has promised to return to management stronger than ever after parting ways with the club.
Mbalangu, who guided NEC through two productive seasons, said he is taking a short break from active coaching but has already received several offers from both local and international teams.
“I have had many offers coming my way, but I want to take a bit of rest first. I’ll be back soon—and stronger than before,” he said.
During his tenure, Mbalangu transformed NEC into one of the most competitive sides in Ugandan football. Under his guidance, the team finished second in the Uganda Premier League last season behind Vipers SC and reached the Uganda Cup final in his first campaign, narrowly losing 1–0 to Kitara FC.
He also led NEC in their first-ever CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers this season, where they were eliminated by Nairobi United, and managed two league draws before his departure.
Known for his outspoken personality and sharp tactical approach, Mbalangu acknowledged that fans will miss his presence on the touchline but vowed to return even better. “I know many people will miss me, but I’ll be back soon. I want to continue proving my worth to those who doubt me,” he said.
He also thanked NEC for trusting him with the job, describing his time there as memorable and rewarding.
Across his career, Mbalangu has coached several clubs including Arua Hill SC, Mbarara City FC, and Blacks Power FC, and also had a brief spell in Somalia.
While interest in his services continues to grow, he hinted that his next chapter will most likely be in Uganda, where he remains eager to continue building his legacy.
