The highlight of AFCON Group D in Morocco is the showdown between former champions Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) on December 27th in Tangier.
The match pits Senegalese star striker Sadio Mané against DR Congo’s influential captain and centre-back, Chancel Mbemba.
Senegal recently edged DR Congo 3-2 in a World Cup qualifier, securing their place at the global tournament, and the Leopards are seeking revenge.
Mané, the Al-Nassr forward and 2022 AFCON hero remains in lethal form, recently bagging a hat-trick in an 8-0 warm-up win over Kenya.
Meanwhile, Mbemba, the Lille defender recently celebrated his 100th cap and proved his clutch ability by scoring and converting a decisive penalty to secure DR Congo’s World Cup play-off spot.
Under coach Sebastien Desabre, DR Congo is optimistic, aiming to advance from a tough Group D which also includes Benin and Botswana.
