Lionel Messi moved to 899 career goals on Saturday, scoring in Inter Miami’s 2-1 victory over DC United.
The 38-year-old’s 27th-minute strike at a sold-out M&T Bank Stadium leaves him just one shy of joining Cristiano Ronaldo in the exclusive 900-goal club.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has now netted 80 times for Miami, adding to his tallies for Barcelona (672), PSG (32), and Argentina (115).
Messi will have his first opportunity to reach the historic landmark on March 11 when Inter Miami faces Nashville.
