MAT ABACUS Business School has held its first Open Day, bringing together alumni and current students for a day of sports, networking, and community building.
The event at Kabira Country Club in Kampala drew participants from MAT ABACUS and Heriot-Watt University. Activities included football and basketball, with a seven-a-side football tournament as the highlight.
Professor Samuel Ssejjaaka, Team Leader of MAT ABACUS, told NBS Sport the initiative was designed to foster unity.
“We started the Alumni Association to bring everyone together as a family — to socialize, engage in sports, catch up on old times, and network,” he said.
Ssejjaaka added that the Open Day will become an annual event, with plans for MAT ABACUS to join the corporate league.
Richard Onanda, Head of Professional Programs, praised the competition’s success and hinted at ambitions in corporate sports.
“The competition was successful, and we are looking forward to joining the corporate games. Other teams should be ready for us,” he said.
Daniel Erabu, Director of Academic Programs, commended the turnout and described the event as a strong foundation for future editions.
With positive feedback and strong participation, organisers expect the MAT ABACUS Open Day to grow into a key annual fixture blending academics, sports, and alumni engagement.
