FIFA has eased its water bottle policy for the 2026 World Cup, permitting fans to bring one sealed disposable plastic bottle into stadiums.
The change, announced June 5 by COO Heimo Schirgi, follows backlash over a ban on reusable bottles that critics said endangered supporters in summer heat.
Hard‑sided bottles remain prohibited, with FIFA citing safety risks. Weather experts warn that 26 matches could be played in heat‑stress conditions, prompting concerns for fans.
FIFA says hydration points, cooling tents, misting stations, and fans will be available, while bottled water sold inside venues will match standard stadium pricing.
