Sadick Ssempigi has hinted at the possibility of extending his stay with newly promoted Uganda Premier League side Kigezi Homeboyz beyond his current contract.
Speaking after Homeboyz’s final‑day defeat to CATDA in Kabale, Ssempigi revealed that he and the club’s management had discussed the option of continuing together in the top flight.
“I signed a one‑year contract when I joined, but management also offered me a three‑year deal if I delivered success. It’s now up to me to either continue serving the club or turn down the offer. I am delighted that we achieved our main target, which was promotion to the top flight,” Ssempigi said.
He added: “I am proud as a coach to have guided such an amazing team to the UPL. It has been a successful campaign despite the challenges. The Big League is tough, with long journeys that make winning games difficult. I thank the players for their hard work and the management for their support throughout the season.”
Meanwhile, experienced coach Kefa Kisala has emerged as a leading candidate to take over should Ssempigi decide not to extend his stay, following the club’s remarkable achievement.
For the first time in 25 years, the Kigezi region will be represented in the Uganda Premier League. Homeboyz finished fourth in the 2025/26 FUFA Big League with 51 points, joining champions Blacks Power, Ntugasaze FC, and Kataka FC in next season’s 18‑team competition.
