Jose Mourinho is set to take charge of Real Madrid after Florentino Perez secured re-election as president until 2030.
Mourinho, 63, signed a three-year deal last month, conditional on Perez remaining in office. That requirement was met as Perez, 79, won 65% of the vote against challenger Enrique Riquelme, collecting 21,741 ballots to Riquelme’s 11,814.
Perez hailed the result as a mandate to “keep winning titles” and welcomed back Mourinho, calling him “one of the best coaches in the world.”
The Portuguese departs Benfica after guiding them to third in the Primeira Liga. His previous Madrid spell from 2010 to 2013 delivered La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. He will replace Alvaro Arbeloa, who oversaw a trophyless 2025-26 campaign.
Perez also promised a record signing as Real look to rebound from Barcelona’s La Liga triumph and another Champions League exit.
