State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang has confirmed that Kitara FC will host their 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup home matches at Hoima City Stadium, ending uncertainty over where the Uganda Cup holders would stage their continental fixtures.
Speaking during the launch of the Hoima Booma training facility in Hoima City, which will serve as a training venue during AFCON 2027, Ogwang pledged government support and assured the club that the stadium would be available for their international matches.
“I have committed on your behalf and on behalf of the government that we are going to give them the facility come September where they are going to play their international game. We shall give them Hoima City Stadium,” Ogwang said.
The minister’s announcement is a major boost for Kitara as they prepare for only their second appearance in continental football. The Royals secured qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup after winning the Stanbic Uganda Cup last month.
The confirmation means Kitara will be able to host continental matches on Ugandan soil, unlike their maiden CAF campaign in 2024 when the absence of a CAF-approved stadium in the country forced them to host Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi away from home.
Ogwang’s assurance came during an event attended by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who also threw her weight behind the club’s continental preparations. Nabbanja pledged Shs20 million in support of Kitara’s campaign.
Hoima City Stadium has already become a familiar venue for the club and their supporters. The facility hosted the Bunyoro derby between Kitara and Buhimba United Saints earlier this year, attracting the highest attendance recorded in the Uganda Premier League last season.
For the CAF Confederation Cup matches, the stadium is expected to operate at a controlled capacity of 17,000 spectators as Kitara prepare to make history by hosting their first official international home matches in Hoima.
