The Government of Uganda, through the National Council of Sports (NCS), has unveiled lucrative cash rewards for athletes who win medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Scheduled for July 23 to August 2, the Games will see Uganda compete in 10 disciplines with a strong contingent. Addressing the national boxing team, the Bombers, during training at Hamz Stadium, NCS Assistant General Secretary Milton Chebet reaffirmed government support and revealed the reward structure: UGX 100 million for gold, UGX 50 million for silver, and UGX 30 million for bronze.
“The level of preparation speaks volumes. Government has provided the necessary support to ensure the team competes effectively. Medalists will be rewarded with UGX 100 million for gold, UGX 50 million for silver, and UGX 30 million for bronze,” Chebet stated.
The announcement is expected to boost morale as Team Uganda intensifies preparations. Uganda impressed at the 2022 Birmingham Games, winning five medals—three gold and two bronze. Victor Kiplangat made history with Uganda’s first marathon gold, Jacob Kiplimo secured double gold in the 5,000m and 10,000m, Peruth Chemutai earned bronze in the 3,000m steeplechase, and Teddy Nakimuli claimed a historic bronze in boxing.
For Glasgow 2026, Uganda will field athletes in athletics, netball, boxing, 3×3 basketball, swimming, weightlifting, para powerlifting, para swimming, judo, and track cycling. Athletics will have the largest squad with 16 athletes, followed by netball with 12 players and boxing with six competitors. Other disciplines will feature smaller but determined teams.
