UPDF FC chairman Brigadier General Richard Karemire has called for unity, innovation and stronger mobilisation of resources as the club embarks on a new leadership era aimed at stabilising and developing all its teams.
The message came during the club’s Annual General Meeting held at Ndere Cultural Centre in Ntinda, Kampala, where a new board was confirmed to steer the football side of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Football Club UPDF FC into its next phase of development.
Brig Gen Karemire, who has officially taken over as chairman, used his first major address to outline what he believes will determine the club’s progress, stressing cooperation among all stakeholders and a stronger drive to secure financial support for the teams under the UPDF structure.
“We must work together as one unit to secure more funding and strengthen all our teams,” he said.
His remarks set the tone for the new leadership’s agenda, which includes improving competitiveness across the men’s side, the women’s team and the junior set up, all of which operate under Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Football Club.
The AGM also confirmed changes in the club’s leadership structure, with Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Kulu moving into the vice chairperson role and Lieutenant Sheldon Turyamureeba taking over as chief executive officer. A new board was also unveiled, bringing together representatives from different UPDF divisions and the fans’ wing to strengthen oversight and participation.
Beyond the leadership changes, the club reaffirmed its long term direction of investing in player recruitment, talent retention and youth development, while also seeking to widen its sponsorship base and improve its commercial outlook.
For Karemire, however, the central message remained clear: success will depend on unity of purpose and the ability to pool resources effectively to support every level of the club’s football system.
