Richard Mucunguzi emerged as the overall winner of the June MTN Quarterly Tee after returning the best score of the tournament at Entebbe Club on Friday.
Playing off handicap 17, Mucunguzi carded an impressive 65 nett to finish ahead of a strong field of 210 golfers who took part in one of Uganda’s biggest corporate golf events. The tournament attracted players from amateur, guest and senior categories, with competitors battling for honours across several divisions.
Hellen Kisinde was the standout performer in the ladies’ competition. She posted a score of 67 nett to win Ladies’ Group B and secure the overall Best Net Score for the women. Her efforts also earned her an indoor camera courtesy of MTN Uganda Enterprise Business Unit.
In the men’s divisions, Saidi Kirarira claimed victory in Group A with 70 nett, edging Tony Kisadha on countback after both players finished tied on 75 gross. Philemon Akatuhurira won Men’s Group B on countback with 70 nett, while Ronald Pulle settled for runner-up. Daniel Kalungi topped Men’s Group C with 67 nett, finishing ahead of Herbert Kamuntu, who returned 69 nett.
Anne Abeja won Ladies’ Group A with 70 nett, while Jovia Tugume finished second on 75 nett. In the senior category for golfers aged 55 and above, Michael Monne emerged victorious with 73 nett. Eric Kawere produced a strong performance to win the guest category after carding 66 nett.
One of the biggest moments of the tournament came on Day Two when Abbey Bagalana recorded a hole-in-one at the 154-yard par-three 12th hole using a wedge, providing one of the highlights of the week-long competition.
Elsewhere, Peace Kabasweka and Abel Okuna won the ladies’ and men’s longest drive prizes respectively, while Pamela Tumusiime and Bbaale Yunus claimed the nearest-to-the-pin awards.
MTN Uganda, alongside partners MoMo, CFAO Mobility, WTW and Castle Lite, kept participants engaged throughout the week with daily prize draws from Tuesday to Friday. Several golfers, including Stephen Paul Ojambo, Cathy Natukunda, Bryan Walusimbi and Anne Abeja, received Market by MoMo shopping vouchers worth UGX 100,000.
The MTN Quarterly Tee has established itself as a major event on Uganda’s amateur golf calendar, combining competitive action on the course with networking opportunities and strong corporate sponsorship.
