With the Rujumba 7s happening this weekend, Platinum Credit Heathens youngster Malcolm Okello is brimming with confidence as his team looks to solidify their position at the top of the Nile Special 7s Men’s Championship standings.
The Platinum Credit Heathens currently hold a five-point lead over defending champions Stanbic Black Pirates, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown at the Rujumba 7s.
Okello, however, is focused on one thing: securing the title.
“We go into the Rujumba 7s with one goal. To win. That’s all we shall be going for. We want to win the Rujumba 7s and the overall title,” Okello declared.
Despite a less-than-ideal performance at the Mbarara 7s with a quarterfinal exit, Okello and his teammates are determined to put that behind them.
“Things never went according to plan in the Mbarara 7s but that is behind us now. We need to rectify our mistakes and give the Rujumba 7s our all,” he said.
The youngster expressed his belief in the team’s ability to clinch the title.
“It’s been a while since we won the 7s title. We are now in a better position, unlike last year. I believe in the team and everyone is very ready and prepared. For now, we don’t have any injuries in the camp, and we thank god for that,” he added.
For the Rujumba 7s, the Heathens are grouped alongside Hippos, Wolves, and Jaguars in Pool D.
With a strong history at the tournament, having won three Rujumba 7s circuits, including last year, Heathens are poised to make a significant impact.
As the Rujumba 7s approach, the title race between Heathens and Pirates is heating up. With Pirates needing to outscore Heathens by six points to reclaim the top spot, the final leg of the series promises to be a thrilling spectacle.
