The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) has expressed excitement as they prepare to host International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach during his visit to Uganda from October 22 to 24, 2024.
Bach’s visit marks a significant moment for Ugandan sport, as he will engage with athletes, Olympians, sports leaders, and senior government officials during his stay.
UOC President Donald Rukare shared the committee’s enthusiasm for the visit, stating, “As the Uganda Olympic Committee, we are honored and thrilled to be hosting the President of the International Olympic Committee, Dr. Thomas Bach. We look forward to him engaging with athletes, Olympians, sports leaders, and senior government officials while he is here.”
Rukare also reflected on Uganda’s recent Olympic successes, noting the country’s growing prominence on the global stage.
“Our star in the Olympics has been rising. Most recently, we have experienced success starting with Stephen Kiprotich. We had our best performance in Tokyo with four medals. Then in Paris, we also had medals,” he said.
Bach will be accompanied by a delegation of around 15 people, and the UOC is eager to showcase the nation’s achievements and further strengthen ties with the Olympic Movement during this important visit.
The visit includes a tour of the Game Connect Project, a sports initiative funded by the Olympic Refugee Foundation, which aligns with the IOC’s commitment to promoting sports as a tool for social inclusion and development.
