The Kenya Simbas successfully defended the Elgon Cup with a commanding 21-5 victory over the Uganda Rugby Cranes in the return leg at Kings Park Arena, Bweyogerere, on Saturday.
Having entered the decider with a narrow two-point lead after their 27-25 win in Nairobi, the Simbas left no room for doubt, storming to a 21-0 lead by halftime.
Their blistering start featured three converted tries, showcasing their attacking prowess and clinical execution.
Uganda struggled to match Kenya’s pace and precision in the first half but regrouped after the break, determined to mount a comeback.
Sidney Gongodyo provided a glimmer of hope for the home side, diving over the line for Uganda’s only try of the game.
However, the missed conversion kept the scoreboard at 5-21, and despite their spirited efforts, the Cranes couldn’t close the gap.
Kenya’s defense stood firm against Uganda’s second-half surges, effectively neutralizing the Cranes’ attacking threats.
The result saw the Simbas retain the Elgon Cup, extending their dominance in this historic East African rivalry.
The loss meant Uganda dropped 10 places on the world rugby rankings down from 37 to 47.
