Kamuntu claimed the men’s overall title with a net score of 65 points, while Basima topped the ladies’ category with 69 points, edging out the competition on countback.

As the overall winners, both received an I&M Bank gift hamper and a coveted RwandAir return ticket to a destination of their choice – Dubai, Johannesburg, Nairobi, or Kigali.

The finale, played under the intriguing “Double Bogey Danger” format, attracted nearly 200 golfers from across the country, culminating a season of intense competition in one of Uganda’s most sought-after golfing events.

“Winning my first-ever overall title is incredibly exciting, though a bit overwhelming,” shared Kamuntu, Vice Chairman of Mary Louise Simpkins Memorial Golf Club, Namulonge. “The double bogey format added a unique challenge. My strategy was to avoid double bogeys on the initial three holes, emphasizing game management and a cautious approach.”

I&M Bank Executive Director and Chief Operations Officer, Sam Ntulume, representing CEO Robin Bairstow, lauded the collective effort and participation of all stakeholders in the series’ success.

“I am thrilled to witness another successful edition of the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series,” Ntulume remarked. “This event has become a cornerstone of our golfing calendar, a testament to your dedication and participation.”

Katogo Captain Elly Kibuka Mukasa, affectionately known as “Sober,” expressed gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and organizers for their contributions to the series’ success. He highlighted the series’ crucial role in fostering camaraderie among golfers and elevating the sport across the region.

“This year’s series has been truly remarkable,” Mukasa stated. “The players’ enthusiasm, the unwavering support from I&M Bank and other sponsors, and the growing interest from the golfing community have made this season unforgettable. We eagerly anticipate an even grander series next year.”

Other notable winners included Edgar Muzahura, who claimed the overall gross category with a score of 73, receiving a RwandAir ticket and a branded umbrella from I&M Bank.

The I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series is expanding its reach, following its successful debut in Kenya last month. The series is set to make its way to Rwanda with a Kigali leg planned for next year.

“This season has been a spectacular journey with its share of twists and turns,” revealed Annette Nakiyaga, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at I&M Bank. “We’ve witnessed brilliant ideas executed and welcomed new partners. Now, we’re thrilled to introduce a Rwandan leg to the series.”

The event concluded with a vibrant 19th hole experience hosted by Patrick Idringi, popularly known as Salvado. The legendary Afrigo Band provided the evening’s entertainment, keeping golfers and guests dancing well into the early hours of Sunday morning.
