Nile Special Rugby 7s to Tip off In Jinja this year.

The Uganda Rugby Union has released the official calendar for the 2023 Nile Special 7s that is slated to commence in July.

On the first weekend of July, the 2022 National Sevens Series champion Jinja Hippos will start defending their championship at home. This 7s will tip off on July 1st and 2nd in Jinja, Dam Water, the home of the Jinja Hippos.
Unlike the 15s, the Nile special 7s games are scheduled to occur for two days, which is two days of the weekend according to the calendar.
Moving forward, the games will then take a shift to Kitgum, which is from July 8th to 9th at Bomah grounds, and then the third game week will see the different teams travel to Kings Park Arena for the Rujumba 7s, which is from July 22nd to 23rd.

To sum up the action-packed month of July, Toroo will host the games on the 29th and 30th of July at Buhinga Stadium, where the Toroo lions are expected to also take part in the 7s encounter.
August starts with thrilling rugby action at the Kyadondo Rugby Grounds in the second weekend of August after the teams have taken a test for a period of about two weeks.
On the 19th and 20th of August, Tororo Rugby Club in Tororo and the Kyabazinga 7s will conclude the season in Bugembe Stadium from September 2nd to September 3rd.
Tororo and Kitgum are two of the new venues that will host the games this year, as per the calendar.

In last year’s series of circuits, the story was about two protagonists that were neck-and-neck for the title going into the final circuit of Sevens, and that was Jinja Hippos and the then Heathens.
Nevertheless, one team had to win the league, and Jinja Hippos came out on top.
With the growing sport of rugby in Uganda, a new champion may be crowned this year as all teams seem to be building well and trying to strategize, but only time and action on the pitch will tell how this year’s tournament will turn out.

Some of the teams that will take part in this year’s Nile Special 7s include Jinja Hippos, Kobs, Black Pirates, Impis, Platinum Credit Heathens, and Toroo Lions, among other teams that have made it through in the 2022 series.
