Last night, the Cranes fans experienced a mix of emotions as Uganda’s hopes for qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the third time were completely dashed.
Despite first-half goals from Aziz Kayondo and Joseph Ochaya, which secured a victory for the Cranes against Niger in Marrakesh, Morocco, it wasn’t sufficient to displace Tanzania. This means Uganda will miss the tournament for the second consecutive time. Kayondo scored for Uganda in the 17th minute, with an assist from Fahad Bayo, and Ochaya doubled their lead before halftime.
Meanwhile, the Taifa Stars played exceptionally well, earning the point they needed to secure their place in Africa’s prestigious football tournament for the third time.
