Uganda Cranes Win the war in Marrakesh but Lose AFCON Qualification Battle

Last night, the Cranes fans experienced a mix of emotions as Uganda’s hopes for qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the third time were completely dashed.

Despite first-half goals from Aziz Kayondo and Joseph Ochaya, which secured a victory for the Cranes against Niger in Marrakesh, Morocco, it wasn’t sufficient to displace Tanzania. This means Uganda will miss the tournament for the second consecutive time. Kayondo scored for Uganda in the 17th minute, with an assist from Fahad Bayo, and Ochaya doubled their lead before halftime.
