Omedi’s APR Crowned Rwanda Premier League Champions

Uganda Cranes striker Denis Omedi played a crucial role as APR secured the 2024/25 Rwanda Premier League title with a 1-0 away victory over Muhazi United in Ngoma on Saturday.

Omedi, who started in a three-pronged attack alongside Cheikh Djibril Ouatarra and Gilbert Mugisha, was instrumental in the only goal of the game.

His precise cross into the box midway through the first half was met by Ouatarra, who poked home after a defensive lapse to seal the title-winning goal.

The win ensured that APR, Rwanda’s most successful club, clinched their record-extending 23rd league crown and sixth consecutive title since 2020.

Their triumph was confirmed after closest rivals Rayon Sports were held to a goalless draw by already-relegated Vision at Kigali Pele Stadium.

APR’s Ugandan contingent; Omedi, forward Hakim Kiwanuka and midfielder Taddeo Lwanga, were all part of the title-winning squad, capping off a successful campaign for the Cranes players in Rwanda.

Despite a spirited second-half fight from Muhazi United, who were missing key players including suspended skipper Joseph Sackey, APR remained composed in defence and controlled the tempo in midfield to hold on for the vital three points.

Muhazi’s late push, led by midfielder Mohammed Kyeyune, failed to break down APR’s well-organized backline.

Rayon Sports, needing a win to stay in contention, couldn’t capitalize even after Vision were reduced to 10 men in the closing minutes following Michael Lutaya’s red card.

The stalemate handed APR a four-point lead, making them uncatchable with just one game left.
