FUBA Division One: Kibuli Set for Bounce-Back After Fifth Loss

Despite suffering their fifth loss of the FUBA Women’s Division One season over the weekend at KIU Kansanga, Kibuli SS assistant coach Shamiah Namujju remains optimistic about the team’s campaign.

With five wins and five losses from ten first-round games, Kibuli SS sits fifth on the log following a 60-35 defeat to the MUBS Lady Jills.

The team struggled throughout the Saturday clash, especially in the second and third quarters, where lapses on both ends saw them fall behind 42-23 heading into the final period.

Kibuli managed 12 points in the last quarter—their highest in the game—but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.

Forward Christabell Tendo led the team with 10 points in what was a below-par offensive display. On the other end, Grace Bangirana, Doreen Atukunda, and Sibella Nabiryo combined for 41 points to power the Lady Jills to a convincing win.

“We’ll get there as a team,” said coach Namujju. “The defense didn’t perform to expectations despite the changes we made, but we’ll come back stronger next time. This is just a slight setback. With the winning streak we had before, we believe we can bounce back in the second round.”

MUBS Lady Jills captain Racheal Among credited their win to offensive focus and tactical discipline. “We’ve been working on our offense despite starting late. We locked in on their shooters by double-teaming and forcing them to drive.”

Elsewhere, Amazon Rhinos were awarded a walkover win against Watoto Ladies, while UPDF Tomahawks, Ndejje Angels, and Victoria She Crocs also picked up victories.
