Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has moved to reassure runners and visitors ahead of the Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon, guaranteeing a safe weekend as Kasese hosts the fourth edition of the race this Saturday, August 23.
In a message posted on X, Gen. Muhoozi confirmed that all security agencies have been directed to safeguard the marathon.
Organisers said the plan covers the race routes, start and finish areas, and post-event festivities, with security expected to remain visible throughout the weekend.
Dennise Paula Nazzinda, Brand Manager for Tusker Lite at Uganda Breweries, said participants can focus on the run and evening entertainment without concern.
“With support from the security agencies, runners should expect to be safe as they run the Rwenzori hills and enjoy the Tusker Lite Neon Rave later in the night,” she said.
Event lead Amos Wekesa described the marathon as a showcase for sports tourism, highlighting both the competitive races and Kasese’s scenery. “Rest assured that the security will be as tight as necessary so runners can enjoy the breathtaking beauty of Kasese,” Wekesa noted.
The marathon offers distances of 42km, 21km, 10km, and 5km, catering to elite athletes, recreational runners, and families. Race kits are priced at UGX 60,000. Post-race celebrations will feature the Neon Rave concert headlined by Eddy Kenzo alongside Kasese talent and other Ugandan artists.
