Beach Woodball Open Debuts in Style at Bunjako

Bunjako Beach that hosted the debit Beach Woodball Open

Uganda Woodball Federation staged its first National Beach Woodball Open Championship at Bunjako Beach on Sunday, February 22, 2026, marking a significant milestone for the sport’s expansion in Uganda.

The event attracted seasoned competitors and new entrants from across the country, reflecting growing regional participation in line with the new national sports law. Players competed across multiple categories on a challenging sandy course that tested precision and control.

In the Senior Men’s Singles category, Gwaka Brian of KIU claimed victory with an impressive 34 strokes. He finished ahead of Amanyire Danny Gilles, who returned 37 strokes, and Oming Trevor of Kyambogo University, who also posted 37 strokes in a tightly contested race for the podium.

Mukova Joan of the Ministry of Public Service won the Senior Women’s Singles title with 39 strokes. Her teammate Naula Jackie secured second place on 41 strokes, while Nanjeru Denise finished third, also with 41 strokes.

The Women’s Doubles competition was closely fought. Nabaggala Sandra and Mukoya Florence emerged winners after carding 43 strokes. Mukamarinda Alvera and Ago Linda of Ndejje Corporate matched the 43 strokes but placed second, while Mukova Joan teamed up with Namuddu Sophie to take third with 44 strokes.

In the Mixed Doubles category, Byamukama Bridge and Nalubega Joyce of the Ministry of Public Service delivered a standout performance, winning with 38 strokes. Mutibwa Robert and Birunji Christine finished second on 41 strokes. Suuna Robert and Zawedde Lillian of Kampala University rounded out the top three with 43 strokes.

The Corporate Men’s division saw Ssenteza Aloysious of UNIK top the standings with 44 strokes. Kiiza Careb of Ndejje Corporate took second place on 45 strokes, edging Kalunga Michael of UNIK, who also returned 45 strokes.

In the Corporate Women’s category, Ainembabazi Patience from the Ministry of Public Service claimed first place with 50 strokes. Nassuna Teddy of UNIK finished second on 52 strokes, while Mbabazi Betty of Ndejje Corporate completed the podium with 63 strokes.

The championship’s successful debut on sand signals a new chapter for woodball in Uganda, with the federation expected to build on the momentum of its first beach edition in the coming calendar.
