The leadership race within the Pool Association of Uganda has entered a decisive phase, with incumbent Head of Women Affairs Deborah Ibenu formally declaring her bid to retain office.
Ibenu picked nomination forms from the association’s Kamwokya offices, setting her sights on extending a two-year tenure marked by advocacy for female participation and parity in the sport.
Her stewardship has seen more women embrace competitive pool, alongside reforms that ensured equal prize money for male and female champions last season.
“I’m pleased with the progress made during my time in office. More women have taken up the pool sport, and notably, the prize money awarded to winners last season was equal for both male and female champions,” Ibenu said after completing the nomination process.
She pledged to build on these gains, stressing that women’s pool still requires deliberate investment to reach greater heights.
The nomination window closes on April 20th, with regional elections slated for April 26th, with stakeholders keenly watching how the contest for leadership unfolds.
