Cricket Uganda Gains Two New ICC Level Two Tutors After Ghana Training Programme

Cricket Uganda has received a significant boost in its coach education programme after Development Manager Davis Turinawe and Northern Regional Development Officer Grace Mutyagaba successfully completed the International Cricket Council (ICC) Level Two Tutors Course in Accra, Ghana.

The three-day course, held from June 5 to 7 at the University of Ghana Sports Directorate, brought together coaching educators from across Africa as part of efforts to improve the quality and consistency of coach education programmes among ICC member nations.

Led by Master Educators Anthonie Ferreira and Chris Cardoso, the programme combined classroom learning, practical field sessions and continuous assessments. Participants were trained in modern coaching methodologies, player development frameworks and effective tutor delivery, while also exploring ways to standardise coaching education across the continent.

Turinawe and Mutyagaba represented Uganda throughout the programme, actively contributing to discussions on coaching pedagogy and demonstrating strong technical knowledge in coach education delivery.

Speaking after completing the course, Turinawe said the qualification would have a direct impact on Uganda’s cricket development structures.

“The course emphasised standardisation of coaching delivery across member nations, ensuring consistency in developing both grassroots and elite coaches.”

He explained that the certification now enables both officials to play a greater role in expanding Uganda’s coaching network.

“Our completion positions us as Level Two tutors, enabling us to train and mentor Level One coaches within Uganda’s cricket development structures.”

Turinawe added that the achievement would strengthen coach education programmes across schools and community cricket initiatives, where quality coaching remains vital to long-term player development.

Cricket Uganda has continued to invest heavily in coach education as part of its wider strategy to improve player pathways and raise standards throughout the game. The latest achievement further enhances Uganda’s presence within the ICC coaching development framework while reinforcing efforts to build a stronger technical foundation for cricket nationwide.

The certification of Turinawe and Mutyagaba is expected to expand the country’s pool of qualified coaching educators and equip more coaches with the skills needed to develop future generations of cricketers across Uganda.
