The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has reaffirmed its commitment to youth sports by sponsoring the 16th ICPAU Junior Woodball Championship with UGX 21 million in cash and in-kind support.
The tournament, set for Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Kyambogo University Peace Park Grounds in Nakawa Division, Kampala, is expected to draw more than 600 participants from over 100 primary and secondary schools nationwide. This marks a sharp rise from last year’s 400 competitors, underscoring the growing popularity of woodball among Uganda’s youth.
Since its inception in 2010, ICPAU has been the principal sponsor of the championship, backing all 16 editions and helping transform it into one of the country’s leading junior sports events. The Institute’s support has provided young athletes with opportunities to compete, sharpen their skills, and represent their schools at national level.
Originally scheduled for Koboko District in West Nile, the 2026 edition was relocated to Kampala due to ongoing Ebola-related public health concerns. Uganda Woodball Federation officials emphasized that the move was made to safeguard participants and confirmed that strict health protocols will be observed throughout the competition.
With ICPAU’s continued backing and a record turnout anticipated, the Federation believes this year’s championship will not only showcase talent but also accelerate the growth of woodball across Uganda by introducing more young people to the sport.
