Uganda’s Teen Cranes will face Kenya on Sunday in the semi-finals of the 2026 CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship after completing a flawless group stage campaign in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The Ugandans secured top spot in Group B with a perfect nine points from three matches following a commanding 4-0 victory over South Sudan on Thursday. Shadia Nabirye and Justine Ayerango each scored twice as Uganda maintained their impressive record of 20 goals scored and none conceded in the tournament.
Their reward is a semi-final meeting with Kenya, who finished second in Group A behind hosts Tanzania. Kenya’s place in the last four was confirmed after CECAFA, in consultation with CAF, awarded them a 3-0 victory over Sudan following the abandonment of a match that had seen the Kenyans leading 16-0 after 56 minutes.
The semi-final pits together two of the tournament’s strongest teams. Uganda have been the standout side so far, opening their campaign with a 13-0 victory over Djibouti before defeating Zanzibar 3-0 and South Sudan 4-0.
Kenya have also impressed, scoring freely throughout the competition. They began with a 16-0 win over Sudan and followed it up with a 6-0 victory against Somalia before being awarded the result against Sudan.
While Uganda enter the contest with the tournament’s best defensive record, Kenya have shown plenty of attacking firepower, setting up what promises to be one of the most anticipated matches of the championship.
The winner of the Uganda-Kenya encounter will advance to the final, where they will face either hosts Tanzania or South Sudan, who meet in the other semi-final.
