Uganda Premier League sides Police and Lugazi have joined the race to sign highly-rated defender Emmanuel Shikanga as interest in the versatile left-back continues to grow ahead of the new season.
The two clubs are understood to have entered the chase for the IUIU Score player, joining BUL, who are believed to have already made an approach and currently lead the pursuit of the defender’s signature. However, negotiations are still ongoing and no agreement has yet been reached.
Shikanga has emerged as one of the most sought-after talents outside the top flight following a series of impressive performances for IUIU Score in the Eastern Regional League.
The towering defender’s football journey has seen him rise through various levels of the game. He first gained attention while representing the Kigai Clan in the Bamasaaba Bikuuka Inter-Clan Tournament and is currently featuring for Kyegwe in the ongoing Buganda Masaza Cup.
His development has also included spells at Bugisu High School, SCORE SC, now known as Northern Division FC, and Mbale Heroes.
While naturally a left-back, Shikanga’s versatility is regarded as one of his biggest strengths. He is capable of operating at centre-back and on the left wing, although his preferred role remains on the left side of defence.
Known for his powerful runs down the flank, dribbling ability and pinpoint deliveries into the penalty area, Shikanga has built a reputation as an attacking full-back. His dangerous set-piece deliveries from free kicks and corners have also contributed numerous goals for teams he has represented.
With several Premier League clubs now monitoring his situation, Shikanga could soon earn the opportunity to test himself at the highest level of Ugandan football as the battle for his signature intensifies.
