Mujib Kasule Criticizes David Obua’s Sacking

The recent dismissal of former Cranes Forward David Obua has sparked criticism from Proline Football Director and former football coach, Mujib Kasule. In a surprising move in early April, Obua was relieved of his duties, leaving many in the football fraternity bewildered.

Kasule, known for his outspoken views, didn’t mince words when commenting on the decision, labeling it as ill thought. He questioned the rationale behind the move, suggesting that Obua’s vision for the game was not adequately supported during his tenure.

“The game develops through individuals. Individuals need the right tools. Obua just needed the right tools to succeed,” Kasule emphasized.

Furthermore, Kasule praised Obua’s approach to football, highlighting his commitment to playing an aesthetically pleasing style of play.

“Ugandans want beautiful football. Many teams have been timid and concentrated on winning at all costs. Obua came in and wanted to play beautiful football. Trust me, many coaches and fans were warming up to what he was doing,” he stated.

Expressing disappointment at the missed opportunity for football development, Kasule remarked, “That’s how football develops. Other coaches would be inspired to start playing beautiful football. I don’t know why URA didn’t see the impact Obua made for the club.”

Kasule also acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the sport, saying, “It is unfortunate but such is football. Obua’s sacking is a big loss to Uganda’s football.”

Obua’s tenure, which started in November 2023, saw the team compete in 20 matches across various competitions, resulting in 8 wins, 8 losses, and 4 draws.
