Over 150 Football Legends to Descend on Kigali for Historic Tournament

Over 150 football legends  will converge on Kigali, Rwanda, in September for the Veteran Clubs World Championship (VCWC 2024).

Michael Owen, Jay Jay Okocha, Ronaldinho, Robert Pires, Roger Milla, and Andrew Cole are just a few of the legendary figures set to take the pitch, bringing with them a wealth of experience and passion for the sport. The tournament will serve as the official opening of the newly renovated Amahoro Stadium, a state-of-the-art facility that has undergone a stunning transformation.

The 10-day event will be a celebration of football’s power to unite and inspire, featuring a series of matches, forums, and community outreach programs. Fans will have the rare opportunity to see their childhood heroes in action, while also experiencing the warm hospitality and love of football that Rwanda has to offer.

Rwanda’s embrace of sports goes beyond this historic tournament. The country has made significant strides in promoting sports development, investing in state-of-the-art infrastructure, and nurturing young talent. The government’s commitment to sports is evident in the renovation of Amahoro Stadium and the construction of new facilities, providing a platform for athletes to shine including partnering with different European clubs for sponsorship deals like Arsenal and PSG.

Rwanda is also set to host the finale of BAL tournament in May at the BK Arena.
