The Uganda Hippos will contest the semi finals at the ongoing CECAFA U20 AFCON Zonal Qualifiers in Sudan.
This was confirmed on Wednesday after Ethiopia and Tanzania drew 2-2 in the second group B game played at the Al Hilal Stadium. The draw means only Ethiopia can better Uganda’s tally of three points at the end of the group stage.
Ethiopia will face Jackson Mayanja’s side in the final game of the group on Saturday and a draw will see both sides progress to the next round at the expense of Tanzania. However, Tanzania can also go through alongside Uganda if the former defeats Ethiopia by more than two goals.
In the semi finals, the Hippos could face hosts Sudan, South Sudan or Burundi depending on who will qualify from group A.
The Two nations that will reach the finals will represent the CECAFA region at the 2023 U20 AFCON tournament in Egypt, next year.
