StarTimes Uganda Premier League
Wakiso Giants FC 3-2 Express FC
Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, Wakiso
Monday, November 28
Wakiso Giants moved four points clear at the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League thanks to a thrilling 3-2 victory at home to Express FC on Monday.
The Purple Sharks who have surprisingly set the tone early in the campaign never looked like a side that would drop points on the day.
Frank Ssebufu handed them the lead inside 8 minutes, heading home from Ibrahim Kasule’s cross. It was soon 2-0 as Kasule struck just before the half hour mark.
With Express’ backs against the walls, they somehow managed to create something at the other end as Anwar Ntege powered in a header off a Farouk Katongole long ball.
Two minutes after the break, Ntege stuned the home crowd with a volleyed effort that rattled the back of the net to level matters.
Wakiso who have been impressive since the start of the season could just not be denied as Kasule set up Ssebufu to fire in the third.
As Express pressed for an equalizer late in the game, Ntege connected poorly with Hassan Mubiru’s cross in what was the Red Eagles’ best chance to leave Wakiso with a point.
The win ends Wakiso’s run of four games without a win against Express and sees them move to 21 points, four ahead of BUL FC who are in second.
In their next fixtures, Wakiso will be away to BUL while Express host Arua Hill at Wankulukuku.
The StarTimes Uganda Premier League returns tomorrow with five games as Vipers host SC Villa, Blacks Power welcome UPDF to Lira, KCCA FC entertains Gaddafi at Luhogo, URA FC will be away to Moroons while Bright Stars locks horns with BUL in Kavumba.
