The Stanbic Black Pirates continue their dominance as they go ahead and win the Kitgum 7s circuit.
The Black Pirates emerged victorious after beating Jinja Hippos 24-00, maintaining a clean sheet throughout the game and showing complete dominance.
The second circuit of the 2023 Nile Special National Rugby Sevens series got underway on Saturday in Kitgum, and this was the first time it had ever happened in the Kitgum region.
On day two of the circuit, Walukuba and Rhinos joined the regular suspects, KOBs, Heathens, Pirates, Impis, Hippos, and Buffaloes in the Main Cup Quarterfinals.
However, on the final day of the circuit, things went south for most teams as the Rhinos managed to get 12-12 draw with Platinum Credit heathens and the Pirates trashed them 24-07 in the semi-finals, giving them no chance to make it to the finals.
The Heathens underperformance is to some extent attributed to injuries to some of their key players, hence the results above.
In other games from the semi-finals, Jinja Hippos showed Kobs levels by beating them 17-12 in a game that was hotly contested.
Jinja hippos got a winner in the extra time as full time had gone to 12-12, and all the attributes go to Denis Etwau, who made the final try, giving them the winner.
Platinum Credit Heathens, however, played the 3rd place play-off game against Kobs, which the Heathens lost to Kobs 14-24.
Heathens performance in this series of the circuit could also be a shift, as many teams have now strengthened.
Earlier in the day, in the main cup quarterfinals, a game that left the rugby fans up was the Impis vs. Pirates game. This game saw Impis beat Black Pirates 12-00 in the first half, but coming into the second half, the Makerere-based boys seemed to have gotten so comfortable, hence giving the pirates the chance to capitalize and score a winner in the last dying minute courtesy of Isaac Massa, hence the contest ending 12-17 in favor of the pirates rugby club.
In the women’s competition, the Thunderbirds lost to the Black Pearls by 05:21, hence making the Black Pearls the women’s champions in the Kitgum 7s.
The black pearls are the lady side of the pirates, and this means Kings Park Arena has profited two wins from the Kitgum 7s.
The next circuit will be played at the King’s Park Arena, known as the Rujumba 7s, on the 22nd and 23rd of July.
This means the Teams have two weeks to prepare and rest until the next circuit, which will be at the home of the Stanbic Black Pirates.
