Uganda Cranes’ Road to AFCON 2023: Preparations and Hopes

The Uganda Cranes continued gearing up for their upcoming 2023 AFCON qualifier against Niger, securing a 1-0 win over Buganda Select in their most recent Regional Tour match. The sole goal was netted by Denis Omedi, the Kitara FC striker, in a match held at Kasana Playgrounds in Luwero. Following this game, the Cranes are now shifting their focus to preparing for the upcoming match against Niger, scheduled to take place in Marrakeh, Morocco, at the beginning of the next month.

The team plans to assemble in Morocco on September 3rd and 4th, with training sessions scheduled for the 4th, 5th, and 6th. Uganda currently holds the 3rd position in their group, trailing Tanzania by three points, who occupy the last qualification spot. The Cranes aim to secure a victory in their final group match and hope that the Taifa Stars lose to Algeria in the other fixture, allowing them to return to the continental showpiece.
