The Second Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon in Kasese Municipality lives up to its promise

This morning witnessed a significant gathering in Kasese municipality as hundreds convened for the Second Edition of the Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon. .

Amos Wekesa, the visionary behind this marathon, was a constant presence, warmly welcoming the participants. Adding an extra layer of grandeur to the occasion, Andrew Kabuura, an affiliate of NBS Sport and former host of the now-canceled NBS Sport This Morning Show, assumed the role of Master of Ceremonies.

Runners from diverse backgrounds came together in this typically tranquil town to partake in the Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon, competing in races spanning 42KM, 21KM, and 5KM.

Despite the early morning chill and occasional light rain, runners were up as early as 4 AM, eagerly gathering at the starting and finishing point along Mariana – Stanley street.

The crowd engaged in warm-up exercises, and the first group of 42 KM runners officially kicked off their race just minutes before 7 AM.

In the 5KM race, Herbert Kibet clinched the top position, closely followed by Barnabas Mugume and Thomas Cheptoyek in the second and third places, respectively.

Abel Chebet delivered an impressive finish in the 21KM race, completing it in 01:02:56, with Ben Somikwo Chelimo crossing the finish line a mere second later at 01:02:57. Norman Kipyeko secured the third position, recording a time of 01:03:02.

Vitalie Kwemoi posted a time of 02 hours, 17 minutes, and 21 seconds, closely trailed by Cheptoch Benard, who completed the race in 02 hours, 17 minutes, and 22 seconds. In the men’s category, Shadrack Kimaiyo claimed the third position, finishing with a time of 02 hours, 17 minutes, and 37 seconds.

Rob Walker, a distinguished British sports commentator, led the way as the chief runner in the second edition of the marathon. Notable figures graced the event, including UNDP Uganda Country Representative Elsie G Attafuah and renowned politician Winnie Kiiza, the former woman MP of Kasese, among others.

Tusker Lite, the primary sponsors of the event, received accolades from Elizabeth Mutamuliza, the Tusker Lite Brand Manager, who expressed pride in the marathon’s accomplishments, extended gratitude to the organizers, and emphasized its positive impact on local businesses in Kasese.
