Ugandan Para-Swimmer Husnah Kukundakwe Secures Major Support from Citi Bank Uganda

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Citi Bank Uganda has announced a partnership with Ugandan Paralympic swimmer Husnah Kukundakwe, extending financial support amounting to Shs 45 million. This initiative places Kukundakwe among the esteemed ranks of “Team Citi,” a collective comprising over 25 Para athletes worldwide. The partnership underscores Citi’s commitment to fostering a more diverse and inclusive society on a global scale.

Expressing her elation, Kukundakwe acknowledges the significance of this collaboration in her career. “This is a huge step in my career, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s an honor to be associated with a brand that supports Para athletes and Para sport globally,” she remarked.

Kukundakwe, who made her mark at the age of 12 by participating in her first World Para Swimming Championships in London 2019, now sets her sights on the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Her aspirations include building on the impressive performance she delivered at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Sarah Arapta, the Managing Director of Citi Bank Uganda, expressed pride in the partnership with Kukundakwe and emphasized its broader impact. “We are proud to partner with Husnah to help change the perception of individuals with disabilities and support her career both in the pool and beyond,” Arapta stated. She further highlighted Citi Bank’s steadfast commitment to diversity and inclusion, recognizing the power of bringing together different perspectives to enhance mutual understanding.

Citi Bank’s involvement in Para sports extends back to 2012 when they initially became partners and later evolved into an international partner of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) in 2018. In May 2022, the bank took a significant step by becoming a founding partner of PARA SPORT, the IPC’s groundbreaking grassroots-to-high-performance program. Currently, Citi Bank extends its support to over 20 National Paralympic Committees (NPCs), solidifying its dedication to the advancement of Para sports globally.

As Husnah Kukundakwe embarks on this new chapter of her career, the collaboration with Citi Bank not only signifies financial backing but also a shared commitment to breaking down barriers and promoting inclusivity. The partnership aligns with Citi Bank’s core values, encapsulated in the belief that embracing diverse perspectives contributes to a more harmonious and understanding society.
