Michael Monnie claimed the coveted title of most outstanding golfer in the MTN Monthly Tee Golf tournament for February 2024. The picturesque par-71 lake-side Entebbe Club served as the battleground on Saturday, 17th February, where a formidable field of 153 golfers faced the challenges of unpredictable weather conditions.
Undeterred by morning rains that momentarily disrupted play, the golfers persisted, and as the sun emerged later in the day, the competition intensified. Michael Monnie, boasting a handicap of 14, displayed an impressive round, securing victory with a nett score of 68, triumphing on countback.
In the fiercely contested Group A for men, Uganda’s national team golfer, Michael Tumusiime, a handicap 1 golfer, emerged victorious. Tumusiime won on countback against Dr. Peter Apell, who wields a handicap 6.
The battle in Group B (men) saw Saidi Kirarira (handicap 17) clinch victory with a nett score of 69 on countback, beating Albert Gitta (handicap 11).
Group C (men) saw Emmanuel Mugabi claim victory with an impressive nett score of 68, surpassing Drake Tukamuhebwa, who secured a commendable 69 nett.
In the Ladies category, Bridget Basiima, playing off a handicap of 12, stole the show with a nett score of 69, earning her the female golfer of the day title. Edith Wamalwa secured the runners-up position with a commendable nett score of 72.
Jamil Maningi secured the title of the best senior golfer with a nett score of 76.
This was the second MTN Monthly Tee of the year with the quarterly Tee, to be held in March, set to be even bigger and better.
