La Liga giants, Barcelona have stripped former defender Dani Alves of his legendary status after he was found guilty of rape and sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison.
The disgraced player joined Barcelona in 2008 and remained a pivotal figure until 2016. As a right-back, Alves played a crucial role in clinching six La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies for the Blaugrana. His remarkable blend of attacking prowess, defensive resilience, and unwavering commitment earned him admiration from both fans and teammates.
Currently, Barcelona FC has not released an official statement regarding Alves’ removal from their esteemed list of legendary players, a roster that includes many of his former teammates such as Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, and the current Barcelona manager, Xavi.
Reports also indicate that residents of Alves’ native Brazilian state of Bahia have demanded the removal of his statue in Juazeiro. The monument has already been subjected to vandalism amidst the controversy.
