Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny Dollo has urged the Namuwongo Blazers basketball club to remain committed to continued success while they unveiled their partnership with Britam Uganda .
Dollo, who is the club patron was the chief guest as the 2022 men’s national basketball league finalists unveiled a shs 20 million sponsorship with the financial management company at their head office in Nakasero as part of a long-term agreement on Wednesday.
Having seen the club grow from a community entity which was established to offer Namuwongo youths a platform for life and basketball skills, the patron believes focus should remain on achieving set targets, “As Nam Blazers, we can only appreciate Britam for the sponsorship by coming top as the most professional and most disciplined team. With that comes the ultimate prize which is continued wins to reward the sponsors.”
The kit sponsorship deal will also see the Namuwongo side engage in community development initiatives, undertake corporate social responsibility activities and involve in matchday activations as part of the partnership.
Focus will be on winning their first-ever national basketball league title having lost 4-3 to City Oilers in their first ever finals appearance two years ago. The club also harbors dreams of representing Uganda at the Basketball Africa League (BAL) as chairman George Nkya notes, “This is a club that has grown from a group of young people from the Namuwongo community who decided to be more professional with the game. This is a growing club and we believe we can walk into the BAL with you (Britam).”
Britam Uganda general manager Ronald Kasolo says the company is committed to enriching lives of marginalized communities through sports, health, education and entrepreneurs opportunities, “With our longstanding tradition of supporting sports has seen us support football, golf and rugby and our new sponsorship with Namuwongo Blazers aligns with our goal of enriching the lives of marginalized communities through various initiatives,” Kasolo revealed.
Namuwongo Blazers captain Paul Odong believes the partnership will support the club’s growth, “It means a lot and given the fact it connects with our goals and we are in here for the long hold. We believe it will go a long way in developing the brand,” Odong noted.
The Namuwongo Blazers boast of one of the country’s biggest fans communities and will look to leverage the audience to ensure sustained club development.
