Uganda’s Halimah Nakayi Eyes Gold at World Athletics Championships in Glasgow

World champion and Olympian, Halimah Nakayi is set to represent Uganda at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow. Nakayi will face off against a field of formidable competitors to secure a place on the podium.

Nakayi faces tough opposition from the likes of Habitam Alemu of Ethiopia and Scotland’s Jemma Reekie. Alemu, a seasoned contender, has consistently demonstrated her prowess on the indoor track, boasting impressive performances and a recent personal best of 1:57.86. Meanwhile, Reekie, fueled by her strong season’s best of 1:58.24.

Despite the fierce competition, Nakayi is no stranger to success on the international stage. As the 2019 world champion and bronze medalist at the last World Indoor Championships in Belgrade, she brings invaluable experience and determination to the track. 

Alongside Nakayi, other notable contenders include Alemu’s Ethiopian compatriots Tsige Dugama and Worknesh Mese, as well as athletes like Benin’s Noelie Yarigo and Jamaica’s Natoya Goule-Toppin. With the competition heating up, fans can expect a thrilling display of athleticism and sportsmanship as these elite athletes vie for glory in Glasgow.
