Kitara’s Omedi Sets Sights on Title After Winning February Best Footballer Award

Kitara  forward Denis Omedi says focus will be on picking up positive results in the remaining games as the Masindi based side target this season’s Startimes Uganda premier league title.

Omedi made the remarks as he was crowned the best footballer for February at the ForteBet Real Stars Sports monthly awards held in Lugogo yesterday. He saw off competition from KCCA FC striker Shaban Muhammad and NEC  defender Joseph Dhata to clinch the accolade.

The Brian Ssenyondo coached side have won 12, drawn 3 and lost 4 of the 19 games played and will look to win the top flight title this campaign.

Denis Omedi who has contributed 10 goals remains a key part of their quest and the Lira born forward believes the side will need to put up a spirited performance in their remaining games, “We are focusing on every game we are playing and we are still within our targets. If that enables us to win the league title then so be it,” He noted.

Omedi says winning the award is recognition for his efforts, “I’m happy with the award and it has inspired me so much, I was nominated before but this is the first time that I have taken it. Everything that happens is not a mistake and it gives me an opportunity to keep working hard.”

Black Pearls winger Emily Lekuru won the rugby gong seeing off competition from Platinum Credit Heathens hooker Syrus Watum and Rhinos fly half Ivan Kirabo.

Rally team of Jas Mangat and Enock Olinga who won the Mbarara rally were voted best of February as Superior Kabadi club’s Douglas Mulalira was upbeat having clinched the Kabaddi award, “These awards give us a platform to be recognized and it motivates other players to work hard and reach this level.”

“Kabaddi is a new sport in Uganda and I joined in 2019. I have had opportunities to play for the national team, various clubs abroad and last month we got to play the Uganda Kabaddi league and was the MVP and best rider which earned me the award,” Mulalira revealed.
Real Stars sports agency CEO Isaac Mukasa reflects on the awards, “The February edition went well and we had four sports disciplines. The federations, sponsors and the media have played a key role to ensure the success of the awards.”

The ForteBet Real Stars sports monthly awards are aimed at recognizing and awarding outstanding sportsmen across various sports.
