Peace Lamunu shone brightly amidst the electrifying atmosphere of the FUBA Women’s All-Star Weekend, emerging as a beacon of talent and resilience from the Holy Street Basketball Academy.

Lamunu’s journey traces back to the slums, where basketball became her vehicle for transformation. Coach Kennedy from the Holy Street Basketball Academy expressed gratitude for the opportunity basketball provided to change Lamunu’s life, citing her struggle with school fees as a challenge that the funds raised from her triumphant 3-point shooting challenge victory would help alleviate.

The women’s All-Star games kicked off with a basketball clinic for young female players, led by coaches Leanne Nalunkuma, Mulwana Olivia, and Angella Namirimu.

The next item of the day starred Rising stars featuring the U-16 and U-18 youngsters who were captained by Mia Belinda Alaba and Shiphrah Kiranda. Belinda Alaba put out a show as her team emerged winners with a 48:43 win against Team Shiphrah.

Daphine Adong and Shiphrah were applauded for commendable defense while Doreen Nakibuuka was crowned MVP after scoring 15 points.

Thereafter, the headline game of the day took center court and it was a battle for the stars. Team Ageno was coached by Angella Namirimu and Team Perus by Mavita Ali.
Team Ageno white washed team Perus right from tipoff.

The game ended 65:35 as the ladies who rocked the blue vests looked unstoppable. Kur Ajah was the top scorer having her way offensively with 14 points while Tracy Namugosa who scored 11 points, had multiple assists, rebounds and steals was crowned MVP.

Winnie Nwagi provided a dynamic halftime performance, offering a lively interlude between the intense on-court action.

The FUBA Women’s All-Star event not only celebrated the prowess of female athletes but also served as a platform for transformative stories like Lamunu’s, underscoring the profound impact of sports in empowering individuals and communities.
