Uganda’s athletics champions, Jacob Kiplimo and Joshua Cheptegei are set to headline the nation’s team at the upcoming World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Belgrade on the 24th of this month.
Olympic gold medalist, Cheptegei clinched victory in the senior men’s category during the 2019 championships in Aarhus, with Kiplimo securing silver. Their stellar performances secured Uganda the gold in the team competition. In the subsequent year, Kiplimo emerged victorious in Bathurst, with Cheptegei claiming the third spot.
With eyes set on extending their medal haul, both Kiplimo and Cheptegei are determined to make their mark at the Belgrade event.
Joining them in Team Uganda’s senior men’s lineup are Martin Kiprotich, who finished 18th in Bathurst, and Dan Kibet, the African U20 5000m champion, who recently secured the runner-up position at the Ugandan Cross Country Championships, trailing Kiplimo.
Leading the charge for Team Uganda’s senior women’s team is national cross-country champion Rachael Chebet, who showcased her prowess by finishing fourth individually at the 2019 World Cross Country Championships and contributing to Uganda’s team bronze in the senior women’s race.
