Uganda’s Medal Hopefuls Kiplimo and Cheptegei to Headline WXC Belgrade 24

Uganda’s athletics champions, Jacob Kiplimo and Joshua Cheptegei are set to headline the nation’s team at the upcoming World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Belgrade on the 24th of this month.

Olympic gold medalist, Cheptegei clinched victory in the senior men’s category during the 2019 championships in Aarhus, with Kiplimo securing silver. Their stellar performances secured Uganda the gold in the team competition. In the subsequent year, Kiplimo emerged victorious in Bathurst, with Cheptegei claiming the third spot.

Chelangat Claims Uganda’s First Athletics Medal in Riyadh

With eyes set on extending their medal haul, both Kiplimo and Cheptegei are determined to make their mark at the Belgrade event.

Joining them in Team Uganda’s senior men’s lineup are Martin Kiprotich, who finished 18th in Bathurst, and Dan Kibet, the African U20 5000m champion, who recently secured the runner-up position at the Ugandan Cross Country Championships, trailing Kiplimo.

Leading the charge for Team Uganda’s senior women’s team is national cross-country champion Rachael Chebet, who showcased her prowess by finishing fourth individually at the 2019 World Cross Country Championships and contributing to Uganda’s team bronze in the senior women’s race.

Senior women: Rachael Zena Chebet, Loice Chekwemoi, Annet Chemengich Chelangat, Sarah Chelangat, Belinda Chemutai, Joy Cheptoyek

Senior men: Leonard Chemutai, Joshua Cheptegei, Dan Kibet, Hosea Kiplangat, Jacob Kiplimo, Martin Magengo Kiprotich

U20 women: Isella Chebet, Keziah Chebet, Vicky Chekwemboi, Charity Cherop, Nowel Cheruto

U20 men: Dolphine Chelimo, Hosea Chemutai, Simba Samuel Cherop, Harbert Kibet, Titus Musau, Sailas Rotich

Mixed relay: Knight Aciru, Linda Chebet, Hosea Kiprop, Sam Kapkerung Kiprotich
