Uganda’s Trio in Action as Boxing Action Starts At African Games

Owen Kibira, Sharon Ndagire, and Khassim Murungi will be in action this Friday as boxing action starts at the ongoing African Games in Ghana.

The trio has represented the country before, with Kibira being part of the 2022 Commonwealth Games team, while Ndagire and Murunfi were part of the African boxing championship squad in Cameroon last year.

Seeking their first continental medals, the trio is spitting venom.

“We have trained well and in shape, ready for the fight. I do not know my opponent, but I have been prepared to face anyone in my weight,” noted Murungi, who starts at against Liberia’s Williams Timothy in the Featherweight round of 16.

Ndagire Shalua set to compete at the All Africa Games

Kibira meanwhile starts against Guinea Equatorial’s B. Nze in welter weight at the round of 16 while Ndagire faces Nigeria’s Ojo Joy in feather weight still at the round of 16.

“I have taken long minus representing my country. I have a chance, and I have to maximise the opportunity,” noted Kibira.

Uganda is represented by seven boxers under coach Patrick Lihanda and Juma Nsubuga.

Muzamir Semuddu is captain the Bombers that also include debutants Innocent Amoko and Innocent Tumusiime as well as Erina Namutebi.

A total of 212 boxers, 148 males and 64 females, were registered from 33 countries.

Uganda had silver and two bronze boxing medals of the total 10 won from the last edition in 2019
