Uganda Boxing National Team captain Khasim Mulungi has turned professional at the age of 22, ending a dominant amateur run in the flyweight division.
Mulungi, who remained unbeaten on the local scene, built a reputation as one of Uganda’s top boxers before taking over the Bombers captaincy in 2024 from Joshua Tukamuhebwa.
He has since led the national team in multiple international assignments, with his latest appearance coming at the East and Central Africa Championships in Kenya in December 2025.
The flyweight now makes the transition to the professional ranks, with his debut scheduled for May 2, 2026 against Magumba Yakububat at the MTN Arena in Lugogo.
Explaining the move, Mulungi said: “I am turning professional because I want to build a strong record early, which will open doors to bigger opportunities and better financial rewards on the international stage. My management team and I have discussed this move, and we believe this is the right time to take the next step in my career.”
