Rockets Soar as Swans Dominate on Match Day One of the 2024 National Hockey League

Match Day One of the 2024 National Hockey League season, showcased dramatic action across both the men’s and women’s categories.

The Rockets kicked off their campaign in style, showcasing a resounding 6-2 victory over the Makerere Stingers. Despite Makerere’s late resurgence with two goals, the Rockets’ early dominance sealed the deal.

Meanwhile, the Thunders asserted their dominance with a commanding 4-1 win over the Titans, while the Badgers scraped through with a narrow 1-0 victory over the City Lions.

The highlight of the game week was the defending champions, Weatherhead, delivering a masterclass performance against the Originals. With an emphatic 10-1 victory, led by stunning hattricks from Colline Batusa, Ntumba, and Thomas Opio, Weatherhead sent a clear message to their rivals.

In the women’s category, the Kampala Swans stole the show with an extraordinary 14-1 demolition of the Thunders. Forward Sandra Namusoke led the charge with an exceptional display, netting an impressive five goals. Alum, Aguti, and Achom added braces to ensure a dominant victory for the Swans.

Elsewhere, Wananchi HDF showed their prowess with a solid 3-1 triumph over Deliverance Church.

The clash between Makerere and the Historicals ended in a stalemate, with both teams settling for a 1-1 draw.

With Match Day 1 setting the tone for an exhilarating season ahead, the action returns on 23rd March at the Lugogo Hockey Stadium.
