Uganda’s Jordan Obita Signs Contract Extension with Hibernian

Jordan Obita has inked a contract extension at Hibernian FC binding him to the club until 2026. The 29-year-old defender, who has Ugandan roots expressed his delight with the decision, emphasizing the seamless transition he’s experienced since joining the Scottish outfit.

“I’m really happy,” Obita conveyed to club media. “I’ve been enjoying myself here. It was really easy. When they came to me and offered a new deal, I was really happy because I’ve only been here for seven months.”

Obita highlighted the significance of the extension, particularly given his relatively short tenure at the club. “I’ve been playing a lot of minutes, so I was really proud that the club wanted to offer me an extension,” he stated.

Reflecting on his move from Reading to Hibernian, Obita acknowledged the adjustment but emphasized how well he has acclimated to his new environment.

“It was a big move, I’d never moved from my area in Reading. It was a big step up here to Scotland but I’ve settled in really well. It’s been perfect,” he remarked.

One aspect of his life beyond the pitch that Obita shed light on was balancing professional football with fatherhood.

The father-of-three admitted to the challenges of managing both roles but expressed satisfaction in seeing his family adjust positively to life in the Scottish capital.

“It’s difficult. You get home but you’ve got to deal with the three kids – they keep you busy. They’re really enjoying it here too,” Obita shared.

Looking ahead, Obita sets his sights on finishing the season strongly with Hibernian FC, aiming to secure a spot in the top six and contend for European places.

“In England, you don’t get to play against Celtic and Rangers. That’d be the equivalent of playing against a Premier League team. We’ve progressed really well and hopefully, we can finish the season well,” he concluded.
