Morocco, Egypt, and Mali, the three African nations set to take part in the football tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics, had their paths to Olympic glory charted out in a draw ceremony held in Paris, France.
Reigning champions of the TotalEnergies CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco, are in Group B alongside South American powerhouse Argentina, Ukraine, and an Asian nation yet to be determined from the Asian Cup. The Atlas Lions will commence their campaign against Argentina, followed by a clash with the Asian representatives before concluding their group stage battle against Ukraine.
Egypt, runners-up at the TotalEnergies CAF U-23 AFCON, are in Group C, where they will lock horns with Spain, the Dominican Republic, and the runners-up of the Asian Cup.
Meanwhile, Mali, the bronze medalists, find themselves in Group D alongside Paraguay, the champions of the Asian Cup, and Israel.
Additionally, there is a possibility of a third African representative at the Paris spectacle. Guinea, who finished fourth at the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON, holds an outside chance of securing a spot as the fourth African representative, provided they overcome the fourth-placed finishers at the Asian Cup. If successful, Guinea would join hosts France, the United States of America, and New Zealand in Group A.
The Men’s Olympic Football Tournament is scheduled to start on 24 July, where France will face off against the United States of America at the Vélodrome stadium in Marseille.
