National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) FC Chairman, Brian Buhanda, believes that the Lugogo-based side remains on course to achieve its season’s target of becoming a competitive force in the Startimes Uganda Premier League.
Under the guidance of coach Hussein Mbalangu, the team earned promotion to the top flight for the first time this season and has enjoyed an impressive debut campaign, currently sitting third with 37 points after 21 games.
Buhanda asserts that the club management has made deliberate efforts to establish sustainable structures aimed at consistent performance.
“We entered the league to compete, not just to participate. We’ve introduced a competitive edge into the league. Through diligent preseason preparations, we secured players capable of achieving our goals and ensured cohesion between our management and technical team,” he said.
With 11 wins, 4 draws, and 6 losses so far, Buhanda says the focus remains on clinching the league title.
“Our ultimate goal is to be champions. Despite the challenges and lessons that come with our first season, we are determined to succeed,” he emphasized.
Regarding the club’s long-term vision, Buhanda said they are commited to talent discovery, nurturing, and capacity building.
“Over the next five years, we aim to implement systems that lead us toward having our own stadium, a junior team for talent development, and players who embody the NEC ethos. Additionally, we seek to expand our fan base and establish a proficient technical team for talent identification and development,” he said.
Currently, Kitara FC leads the standings with 43 points, followed by BUL in second place with 4 points ahead of NEC FC. NEC’s next fixture will be away against Wakiso Giants at the Kabaka Kyabagu stadium on Friday, 29th March.
