Uganda boxing federation (UBF) President Moses Muhangi is satisfied with the national boxing team (Bombers) performance at the concluding 13th Edition of African Games in Accra, Ghana.
The games that come to a climax this weekend have so far seen Uganda collect 15 medals, of which four are gold, five silver, and six bronze with hopes off attaining more from the final outing.
Three of the six Uganda bronze medals have come from boxing led by Captain Muzamir Semuddu, Kasim Murungi, and debutant Innocent Tumusiime. With three of the seven boxers in Ghana securing medals, Muhangi is a satisfied man.
“Three out of the seven bombers (the Uganda National boxing team) at all African games 2024 in Ghana won a bronze medal each. It’s fantastic performance by the bombers given the circumstances we operate under,” Muhangi opened. The team was under the tutelage of Olympian and former games gold medalist Patrick Lulihanda with Kyengera boxing club’s Juma Nsubuga as his assistant.
Away from the gold medalists, Owen Kibira, debutant Innocent Amoko, Sharua Ndagire, and Erina Namutebi are the other boxers on the team and all bowed out at the quarter quarter finals.
Although Bombers equalled the three medals from the previous edition, there has been a decline. With this edition bringing three bronze medals, it is a slip in performance from the two Silver and one Bronze medal won in Rabat, Morocco.
